What is Second Tide?
Second Tide is a Jacksonville-based startup raising awareness about ghost gear by selling shirts. The brand is building toward a future circular model where recovered fishing gear could become useful products.
What is ghost gear?
Ghost gear is abandoned, lost, or otherwise discarded fishing gear in the ocean, such as nets, lines, rope, traps, and other fishing equipment.
What does ALDFG mean?
ALDFG stands for abandoned, lost, or otherwise discarded fishing gear. It is a technical term often used when discussing ghost gear.
Does the Founders Tee contain recovered fishing gear?
No. The Founders Tee does not contain recovered fishing gear, recycled material, organic material, or certified material. Second Tide is not there yet.
Where does my purchase go?
Today, purchases help fund Second Tide’s next steps as an early startup, including future shirt batches, samples, research, and partnership-building. No fixed dollar amount or percentage currently goes to a cleanup organization.
Has Second Tide funded cleanups yet?
Not yet. Second Tide has not funded cleanups, removed ghost gear, or confirmed cleanup partners yet.
Is Second Tide partnered with cleanup organizations?
Not yet. Second Tide has no confirmed organization partners right now, but future partnership-building is part of the startup’s direction.
Who founded Second Tide?
Second Tide was founded by Cuatro Hillis in February 2026 after the idea began through a social entrepreneurship class, a love for the ocean, and time spent at Island School.
Is Second Tide a cleanup organization?
Not currently. Second Tide is an early-stage startup raising awareness about ghost gear through the Founders Tee while building toward future cleanup funding, partnership-building, and recovered-material research.
What sizes and colors are available?
The Founders Tee is offered in sizes XS–2XL and in White, Sage, Navy, and Black. Availability may vary by inventory.
How long does shipping take?
Typical delivery takes about one week, though timing can vary by order. Second Tide currently ships within the United States.
