The beginning

Some things you can't unsee.

I was 16, on a 48-hour solo on a beach in the Bahamas. I ended up building a hammock out of fishing lines, rope, and nets I found within arm's reach. There was that much of it. That beach was one of the most beautiful places I'd ever seen. And it was buried in ghost gear.

I've spent my life by the ocean. Surfing, diving, moving along coastlines that don't make travel magazines. Ghost gear is everywhere once you start seeing it. The hard part is most people never do.

...And it was buried in ghost gear.

Where we are

Day one. No investors. No shortcuts.

Second Tide began as an assignment to create a social venture pitch and present it to the class. A select few were chosen to keep working on theirs for the rest of the semester. Unlike most class projects, I saw a future in it, so I decided why not. I'm 20 years old building this from scratch. No formal partnerships... yet. No manufacturing deals... yet. Just a clear problem, a mission worth building, and a first collection of products that funds the next step.

Where we're going

A closed loop. Not a marketing line.

Ghost gear gets pulled from the ocean by cleanup organizations. We take that material, process it, and turn it into travel gear. When it wears out, it comes back. Nothing goes to landfill. The loop closes.

That's the destination. The Founders Tee is how we get there.
